Oct., 2003 - In the Jewish community of Mitzpe Yericho, between Jerusalem and Jericho, a full scale model of the Third Temple is being built to allow the training of priests for service in a future rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem.

Plan Would Have Israel Give Up Temple Mount
Alternative 'peace deal' for Mid-East

Oct. 13, 2003 - Representatives of Israel and the Palestinians have spent two years in secret negotiations to produce an unofficial, alternative peace plan for the area. The plan is called the Geneva Accord, because it is backed by Swiss diplomats and human rights activists and intellectuals. The heart of the deal is a compromise: Palestinians would give up the right of refugees to return, and Israel would surrender sovereignty of the Temple Mount.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has angrily denounced the proposal, accusing left-wing Israelis of trying to bring down his coalition government.

Tense times at Jerusalem holy site

Sept. 1, 2003 - Non-Muslims are being allowed to enter the Temple Mount and the al-Aqsa Mosque compound for the first time since the intifada broke out in September, 2000. The Islamic Waqf, the religious trust that controls the compound, and has its own guards, says that it does not allow the visitors, but can't enforce it since the gates are actually controlled by Israeli guards who let the visitors in. So far there has been no violence over the issue since visitors are only allowed on the days, and during the times that do not interfere with Islamic activities.

Corner-Stone Ceremony To Be Held

Aug. 6, 2003 - Israeli authorities have allowed Gershon Solomon's organization, The Temple Mount Faithful, to hold a Tisha B'Av (Day of Mourning for the destruction of the Temple) ceremony in a Jerusalem suburb, then hold a parade, featuring two foundation stones for the future rebuilt temple, up to one of the gates near the Temple Mount. Solomon was enthusiastic about the meaning of the event.

Temple Mount reopens to non-Muslim visitors

July 1, 2003 - Recently, Israeli police have been promising that the Temple Mount would be opened to non-Muslim visitors, even if the Waqf (Muslim Religious Trust, Islamic Clerics appointed by Yasser Arafat to administer the Temple Mount) did not agree to allow outsiders. So far, no agreement has been reached, but in the last few days, officers stationed at the Western Wall have begun to escort tourists to the holy site.

'Biblical Temple' tablet found
Jan. 15, 2003 - An Israeli newspaper has reported that geologists say an ancient stone tablet detailing repair plans for the Jewish Temple of King Solomon is genuine. The tablet comes from the period of the Jewish King Joash, who ruled the area 2,800 years ago, and is the first archaeological proof that the Temple area was under the control of Israel at that time.

Jerusalem mufti incites Armageddon
Oct. 16, 2002 - Hal Lindsey argues that the Muslim leadership in Jerusalem is inciting a struggle over the Temple Mount that can lead to all-out war in the Middle East.Last Friday, Sheikh Ikrema Sabri said, "The Temple Mount belongs only to the Muslims." He also stated that they will not allow anyone to interfere in their affairs, including the Israeli authorities.
The Hebrew prophets predicted that a conflict over Jerusalem between Israel and the surrounding nations, which are all Muslim today, would be a great burden to the whole world. The prophet Zechariah predicted that this conflict would ignite the last war of this present world (Zechariah 12:2-3).

The Bulge on the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount Becomes Larger
Aug. 30, 2002 - Archaeologists of the Israeli Antiquities Authority warned that the southern wall of the Temple Mount is in great imminent danger of collapsing. If it does fall, it would probably ruin the famous Mosque of Al Aksa and two illegal mosques that have been built in the area. In a letter to Prime Minister Sharon, Gershon Salomon, head of the Temple Mount Faithful, said that he believes this problem is caused by the Hand of God.

Virtual Temple Model Open In Jerusalem
Apr. 27, 2001 - A model of the Temple Mount, including an interactive virtual reality tour of the site as it looked thousands of years ago, is now open in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Archaeologists, computer technicians and a team of architects, including professionals from the United States, worked on the exhibit which includes cutting edge technology, used for the first time. The Israeli Antiquities Authority and the Council for the Development of Eastern Jerusalem supported the project which was financed by a NIS 70 million (approximately $17.5 million). Other highlights of the exhibit include tours of the Temple Mount, the tunnels beneath the Western Wall, the Mt. of Olives and the Kidron River.

Jerusalem 'bomb plot'
Jan. 15, 2001 - There is fear in Israel about the effect a popular new movie could have. The movie, Hahesder, or Time of Favor, is about the destruction of the Islamic holy places on the Temple mount by ultra-religious Jews.
Two former heads of the security service Shin Bet, have already warned the government that a plot exists to attempt this scenario in real life, with devastating consequences.
"To harm the mosque, it means a global war between the Arab world and the Islamic world against Israel, and no doubt that it could be a war that may bring destruction to the state of Israel."

Jewish law forbids giving up Temple Mount, say rabbis
Jan. 6, 2000 - The latest peace proposals from President Clinton suggested that "surface" sovereignty over the Temple Mount be given to Palestinians, while "underground" sovereignty, including the Western Wall, would remain in the hands of the Israelis.
This proposal is unacceptable to both sides because of their religious laws.
"Jewish law absolutely prohibits handing over any sovereignty or ownership, indirectly or directly, to foreigners on the Temple Mount," said the ruling by the Chief Rabbinate Council. "The sovereignty belongs to the Jewish people."
"The very discussion" of giving up Israeli control of the Temple Mount "is a desecration of God's name", added the council, which is headed alternately by the Ashkenazic and Sephardic chief rabbis.
The rabbis' ruling was a mirror image of similar statements by the top Muslim cleric in Jerusalem, Sheik Ikrama Sabri, the Mufti of Jerusalem, who has declared that Islamic law prohibits any non-Muslim sovereignty over the area of the al-Aqsa mosque.

Excerpts from The Prophecy Puzzle

In the actual software package, many key words would appear as colored hyperlinks to other articles. These links are not shown here.

Since the Bible teaches that the Temple will be rebuilt, and it is obvious that it must be in the general area of the Temple Mount, there is much speculation about exactly where the Temple might be situated. There are several possibilities for the place where the Temple will be rebuilt. Here are the main theories:

Where The Dome of The Rock stands
This is the conventional view. Archaeologist Dan Bahat represents this point of view. Everyone used to assume that the Dome of The Rock had to be torn down before the Temple could be built, because the rock was thought to be either the place of the Holy of Holies or of the Altar of Sacrifice. It is unthinkable to destroy this shrine without bringing the greatest of all jihads, or "holy wars" by all of Israel's Moslem neighbors.

North of the Dome of The Rock
This theory suggests that the new Temple could be built north of the Dome of The Rock without tearing it down. This view is based on the known location of the Eastern Gate ("The Golden Gate"), the location of the Dome of the Tablets, and a line of stones. The Eastern Gate is the one into which Jesus entered when He offered Himself as Messiah and was ultimately rejected by the religious authorities of Jerusalem. It is thought to be the gate of the future coming of Messiah into Jerusalem, so the Moslems have walled it up completely in the hopes of keeping this prophecy from being fulfilled. Verification of the ancient position of the Eastern Gate was made recently with the discovery of an arch from an older gate directly below the existing one. The older gate may even date back to the time of Solomon. The Dome of The Tablets is a cupola, also called Dome of the Spirits in Arabic. (Asher S. Kaufman, "Where The Ancient Temple of Jerusalem Stood", Biblical Archaeology Review, March/April, 1983. pp. 41-59)

Kaufman is a faculty member in physics at Hebrew University. He has explored the Temple Mount more than 100 times since 1974.

The newly discovered Western Gate, underneath the present city is also interesting since it is on the same basic line which could be drawn through the temple area.

This scenario would place the Dome of The Rock in the outer court, the Court of The Gentiles. Perhaps this is why Revelation 11:1-2 says:

1 And there was given me a measuring rod like a staff; and someone said, "Rise and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and those who worship in it.

2 "And leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for forty-two months."

This could be the key to peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Both want Jerusalem for their capitals. Both want control of the Temple area. If an agreement could be made to allow the Palestinians to have a part of Jerusalem, including the portion of the Temple Mount where their holy places stand, and Israel would have the rest of Jerusalem, including the place where they can build the Temple, the peace process might be completed.

South of the Dome of The Rock
This view is advocated by Tuvia Sagiv in his paper "The Hidden Secrets of The Temple Mount", 1992. This is Chuck Missler's preferred view now for several reasons. ( "The Coming Temple Update", Audio briefing series, 1995)

GOVERNMENT NEVER FORBADE TEMPLE MOUNT PRAYER
3/2/97 - From Arutz 7 through Calvary Chapel Jerusalem

A document that was presented to the Jerusalem District Court this week shows that the Government of Israel never made an official decision to forbid Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount. The document, which was presented by the defense lawyers in the trial of Chai V'Kayam members, was prepared by the Cabinet Assistant Secretary in 1986. The implications of the document are that the Supreme Court justices were repeatedly deceived when they were told that the government had forbidden Jewish prayer. The government did make one decision on this issue: a one-time ban on Jewish prayer on the Mount, some two months after the Six-Day War. Yehuda Etzion, leader of Chai V'Kayam, told Arutz-7 today that the proof that the decision was not meant to be binding is found in a protocol of a government meeting that was held some weeks later. According to the protocol, one minister attempted to cite the decision as grounds for forbidding prayer on the Mount, and then-Minister Menachem Begin protested, "I was the one who suggested the original proposal then, and the decision applied only to that specific case. We never made a decision to forbid Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount." (Arutz 7)

TEMPLE MOUNT FEAST
2/23/97 - F.Y.I. - Israel In The News

Nearly 1,000 people participated in a unique dinner Monday night in honor of the Jerusalem Temple and Jewish presence on the Temple Mount. Samples of music and instruments that may have been sounded by the Levites in the Temple were played, and speakers described how Jews would ascend to the Temple with their sacrifices. Rabbi Dov Lior explained that many rabbis permit the ascent to the Temple Mount even now, after proper halakhic preparations have been made (ritual immersion, knowing the permitted locations, etc.). MK Rabbi Benny Elon bemoaned the fact that the Temple Mount is effectively not under our control. He said, "How can we not cry when we hear the police cheerfully report on the Moslem Ramadan prayers at the site of our Holy Temple?"

Meanwhile, the Council of Yesha Rabbis has issued a call to "all rabbis who permit it" to encourage their congregants and students to visit the Temple Mount. This is the first time that the Council has taken such a position. Rabbi Daniel Shilo of the Council explained that in light of the recent Arab moves to eradicate all Jewish presence on the Mount, and their increased presence there, and their turning of Solomon's Stables into a mosque, it has become more urgent to make the Jewish presence felt there. He said that for the last few months, the Council had been attempting to remedy the scene with "quiet, behind-the-scenes" activities, but that they did not bear fruit. The Council statement emphasized that the ascent to the Mount must be made with the proper Halakhic preparations, and only to the permitted areas. (Arutz Sheva)
