Nigerian Islamist attacks spread July 27, 2009 - In Nigeria, which is approximately half Christian and half Muslim, about 150 Christians have been killed by Islamic militants. Most of the attacks have occured in Maiduguri, Borno State. Hundreds are fleeing their homes. - Some of the militants follow a preacher who campaigns against Western schools. The preacher, Mohammed Yusuf, says Western education is against Islamic teaching.

Activists claim Christian executed in N Korea July 24, 2009 - Ri Hyon Ok, a North Korean woman, was publicly executed for distributing the Bible, which is banned in the communist nation. She was also accused of spying for South Korea and the United States and organizing dissidents. Future American Christian Students Uncertain As Obama Signs Stimulus Plan Feb. 17, 2009 - One of the stipulations of the stimulus plan signed by President Obama today will end Christian activities in some college and university facilities. The rule states: - "No funds awarded under this section may be used for (3) modernization, renovation, or repair of facilities (A) used for sectarian instruction or religious worship; or (B) in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission."
The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) says it will challenge the provision in federal court because it encourages discrimination. ACLJ chief counsel Jay Sekulow said, "This is an unacceptable provision that clearly discriminates against religious organizations that have a legal right to use those facilities." - Source: Worthy News
Conservative Groups Declare Obama's Stimulus Bill a War on Prayer Feb. 4, 2009 - One provision of the stimulus bill that was passed by the House of Representatives last week is the prohibition of funds used for the "modernization, renovation, or repair" of facilities that allow "sectarian instruction, religious worship or a school or department of divinity." Republicans in the House opposed the bill unanimously. - "What the government is doing is discriminating against religious viewpoints," said Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, a Washington-based nonprofit organization that works to advance religious freedom.
