Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood declared 'terrorist group'
Dec. 25, 2013 - Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister Hossam Eissa announced that the Muslim Brotherhood
has been declared a terrorist group. The government blames it for a deadly attack on a police headquarters earlier this week. He said,
"Egypt was horrified from north to south by the hideous crime committed by the Muslim Brotherhood group... This was ... a clear declaration
by the Muslim Brotherhood group that it still knows nothing but violence."

Egypt orders deposed President Morsi to trial for conspiring with Hamas, Hezbollah
Dec. 18, 2013 - Former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is already standing trial for inciting violence while he was still in office a year ago. Now,
along with 35 other Muslim Brotherhood members, he will be tried on charges that they conspired with foreign groups (Hamas and Hezbollah) to
commit terrorist acts in Egypt.
The charge sheet called it "the biggest case of conspiracy in the history of Egypt". It accused the Brotherhood of carrying out attacks on security
forces in North Sinai after he was deposed on July 3.
Conviction on these charges could result in their execution.

Senior General: US in Greatest Danger Since 1930s
Nov. 22, 2013 - Senior military analyst Lt. Gen. Thomas G. McInerney told reporters that the the US in the most dangerous situation it has been in
since the 1930s just prior to World War II. Here is a summary of his warnings:
- The US is not prepared for an Iranian "Electromagnetic Pulse" attack.
- Iran's nuclear program may not be curtailed by the current Geneva conference.
- The US has alienated its long-time ally Egypt, so they have signed a $4 billion arms deal with Russia designed to let Egypt attain parity with the Israelis.
- By alienating Egypt the peace treaty with Israel may fail, and our country could lose access to the Suez canal and the privilege of military flights over Egypt.
- Our actions toward Egypt favors the Muslim Brotherhood.
- Our actions toward Syria has legitimized President Assad and acknowledged Russian hegemony in the Middle East.
- We are disarming the US military.

Russia and Egypt in key Cairo talks
Nov. 14, 2013 - Russian foreign and defense ministers are engaged in talks with their Egyptian counterparts in Cairo. An arms deal that is
being discussed could be worth $2 billion. Relations between Cairo and Moscow have been strained for decades. Recently the US has decided to cut defense
aid to Egypt over the issue of the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi. However, Egypt's Foreign Minister, Nabil Fahmy, said that he was not looking for
a "substitute for anyone". The Egyptian Al-Wafd newspaper called the meeting "historic".
The flagship of Russia's Pacific Naval Fleet, the cruiser Varyag, is on a six-day visit to Alexandria - the first Russian warship to visit Egypt since 1992.

Egypt's Morsi defiant; trial adjourned until Jan. 8
Nov. 4, 2013 - On the first day of his trial, deposed Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi claimed that he is still "legitimate president" of the country.
The first day of the trial ended quickly with defense lawyers granted a postponement until Jan. 8 to give them time to review the new documents in the
case, said Egyptian security officials.

Senior Muslim Brotherhood leader Essam el-Erian arrested in Egypt
Oct. 30, 2013 -
The [Egyptian] military and police have detained large numbers of Brotherhood officials and supporters since the ouster of former President Mohamed
Morsy in July. A court banned the movement in September.
They have now arrested Essam el-Erian, the vice chairman of the group's political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party.

US cutting military aid, hundreds of millions in cash assistance to Egypt
Oct. 10, 2013 - Egyptian officials are unhappy about the U.S. decision to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and military aid
in response to the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi and the suppression of his supporters. Much of the $1.5 billion aid to Egypt will be held
back until it is clear that the country will return to a democratic form of government. Some of the temporary cuts are twelve F-16s; twelve AH-64 Apache
helicopters; four M-1/A-1 tank kits, an unspecified number of Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and $260 million in cash.

Officials said they plan to revaluate this decision on a constant basis going forward, to see if the Egyptian interim government is moving
rapidly towards a "sustainable, inclusive, non-violent transition to democracy."

take-over had occurred.

military forces fired at the crowd, killing at least one protestor.
Islamist supporters planned the march, in defiance of a security crackdown on demonstrations. Egyptian authorities warned the Brotherhood
that new demonstration camps would not be tolerated.

Report: Egypt's army planning to attack targets in Gaza

The Egyptian army has planned military attacks on specific targets in the Gaza Strip in the event that the security situation in the
northern Sinai peninsula deteriorates, a senior Egyptian security official told the Ma'an news agency.
Hamas, an ideological offshoot of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood, is suspected of attacking security forces on the Sinai border. Egypt has
already taken reconnaissance photos of potential Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

Egypt court bans all Muslim Brotherhood activities
Sept. 23, 2013 - An Egyptian court ordered the Muslim Brotherhood to stop all activities. They also ordered seizure of the group's funds.
"The court bans the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood organization and its non-governmental organization and all the activities
that it participates in and any organization derived from it," said the presiding judge Mohammed al-Sayed.

Egyptian government decides to dissolve Muslim Brotherhood
Sept. 6, 2013 - Egypt plans to dissolve the Muslim Brotherhood as a registered non-governmental organization. The temporary
government continues to round up members members of the Brotherhood.
"The minister's decision has in fact been issued but it will be announced at the start of next week in a press conference," Al-Akhbar newspaper
quoted Hany Mahana, spokesman for the minister of social solidarity, as saying.

Egypt panel urges Brotherhood dissolution
Sept. 2, 2013 - The Muslim Brotherhood was registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) last March, but an Egyptian
judicial panel is now recommending that the courts dissolve their status. The court will hear the case on Nov. 12.
The Brotherhood was founded in 1928 and formally dissolved by Egypt's army rulers in 1954. The judicial panel's recommendation is not binding
on the court.
