Noah's Ark and Sodom

Why did NBC corrupt the story of Noah's Ark?

E!Online reported that "Noah's Ark" Floods NBC with Complaints,Ratings . The two-part mini-series did garner the highest ratings with 50 million viewers on Sunday and 42 million viewers for the Monday conclusion. People tuned in in record numbers to see a modern adaptation of the classic Bible story. This shows once again that people are interested in the Bible. But what they got was not palatible for Bible-believers. The mini series artificially moved the story of Sodom and Gomorrah from its proper place in history, hundreds of years later, to the time just before the flood. And it erroneously portrayed Lot, a citizen of Sodom, as a close friend of Noah.

The dialogue and acting in this NBC version of Noah's Ark were very strange. It wasn't "bad acting" as in a second-rate movie, but unrealistic. Given the fact that excellent actors and actresses (Jon Voight and Mary Steenbergen - played the key roles), and that millions of dollars were obviously spent to produce the epic and its special effects, we have to ask why NBC would go to the trouble of presenting such an inaccurate spoof. As the E!Online article points out,

The network did post a disclaimer at the beginning of both installments, saying it had taken some "artistic and historical license" with the story and apologizing to viewers if they found the treatment objectionable.

So why did NBC purposely corrupt history and take this chance on knowingly upsetting Bible believers? The answer might be found in the prevalence of homosexuals in the entertainment industry. At the risk of being called "homophobic" (not true- see our article on the need for love and compassion in this area), we propose this theory: Homosexual activists are very vocal at this time. This can be seen in lobbies for government legislation and, most of all, in the entertainment field (nearly every sitcom now has a charming homosexual character to represent this tiny minority). Many homosexuals claim to be good Christians, and try to make us think that their life-style is not condemned in the Bible. For them, the story of God's destruction of Sodom is a big problem. They like to claim that there is no connection between Sodom and homosexuality. In truth, Sodom's underlying sin was materialism and failing to care for the poor and needy, and this led to "detestable" actions (Ezekiel 16:49-50).

In Genesis 19:5-7 (NIV) we read, They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing."

This happened in the city of Sodom. Immediately after this God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone. The type of sexual activity practiced by these people is called sodomy to this very day.

The homosexual community would like to re-write the Biblical story of Sodom to exclude any reference to homosexuality. It would be too obvious to do so in a movie about Sodom itself, so it appears that they purposely moved the Sodom story, out of its historical context, and placed it in the beginning of the Flood story. In NBC's mini series, great care is taken to depict the immoral heterosexual activity of Sodom without the slightest indication that homosexuality was an issue. One warrior says, "The best part of fighting is wine women and song."

When Noah and his wife try to identify 10 righteous people in Sodom, they disqualify one man because he sleeps with young girls, and then reject another because he has sex with another man's wife. There is no mention of homosexuality.

After the destruction of Sodom, Noah says that maybe they will meet a scribe one day who would write the story down for the sake of future generations. His wife says that you can't trust "Scribbling Scribes" because they have a very bad reputation for changing things. She says, "By the time they finish the story of Sodom and Gomorrah they will probably say we weren't even there."

There you have it. By tricking 50 million people into watching this farce, they have succeeded in planting the ideas that homosexuality had nothing to do with the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and that the entire Bible is untrustworthy.

I hope Christians will let NBC know that we don't appreciate their revised version of the Bible.
