The Manhattan Declaration - Be a part of Christian history!

In just one week the Manhattan Declaration has been signed by more than 200,000 Christians. This statement of moral principles for this generation may be as important as Luther’s 95 Theses that started the Reformation.

Evangelical, Orthodox, and Catholic leaders have agreed that Christians must stand firm on the biblical teaching in three areas that are being attacked by today’s declining culture. The issues are:

1. The sanctity of human life. [Issues: abortion, euthanasia]
2. The dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife. [Issue: same-sex marriage]
3. The rights of conscience and religious liberty. [Issue: hate-crime legislation to discredit the Bible]

The Manhattan Declaration directs Christians to stand courageously for these things, regardless of the consequences (persecution and imprisonment), and if necessary, to practice civil disobedience.

Jesus warned that in the Last Days his followers would be persecuted.

“You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. - Mark 13:9

Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. - Acts 4:18-19

You can be involved. Read and sign the declaration.

Christians need only open their Bibles to the following verses and accept what Jesus warned us would happened in the future, and forget about signing some secular “Declaration.” That means nothing. Living for Christ boldly at the risk of physical, mental, emotional and verbal persecution will divide the wheat from the tares. We are supposed to be ready and willing to die for Christ if necessary because it is what He taught.

Signing some paper is not goint to guarantee that we won’t buckle when the threats and other forms of persecution start. If Jesus couldn’t get His point across in the Bible, signing a document to promise loyalty and unity certainly won’t work.

Additionally, at the risk of being called judgmental and mean-spirited, I will dare say that I do not consider some of the denominations involved in this “Manhattan Declaration” true Christians (Roman and Orthodox Catholics, for two). True Christians should see no need to sign a document stating that they will stand courageously for their moral and Christian beliefs because their Bible already tells them that, if they would study it.

Whether you want to admit it or not, Catholics (both Roman and the Orthodox denominations) do not draw their authority strictly from Scripture, but from their religious hierarchy. Therefore, it is understandable that they would need to sign some type of mutual agreement in an attempt to show their faithfulness to the Lord.

Shame on anyone who calls themselves a true Christian and signs such a document.

Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

Matthew 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

Mark 13:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Luke 21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

John 15:24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

John 15:25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

Thank you for the additional Scripture references, Shirley! People who sign the declaration will do so because of these very portions of God’s inspired Word. But they are doing the courageous thing to add their names to a list of Bible-believing Christians who would rather suffer persecution than to have their Biblical views censored.

Ahh ! The Gauntlet has been Thrown !

    Very well……

This if for SHIRLEY YOUNG & her outrageous & bigoted post at the top !

As a devout Catholic, I am deeply offended by your comments !
It’s one thing to disagree, but to stoop to bigoted remarks, declaring US as NON-Christians or not “true Christians”, is totally reprehensible !

All the SHAME should remain with U shirley !
if anyone is not truly christian, - It is U !

Due to the nature of this site, no doubt many among U will be cheering her on like some perverted gleeful cheerleader !

    - no thanks to the Anti-Catholic Rantings by the jehovah witness & SDA, Jack Chick, & all other professional anti-catholic cults !

If U Shirley, or any of U on this blog, wish to debate the veracity of the Holy Catholic Church & her Love for Jesus Christ our God & King, & Head of our Church (not the Pope ! - as some of U think)

    - then by all means come & either debate us, or find out the TRUTH of what we actually DO believe & Teach - & not what some other deluded 10th-hand protestant says about us !

If I wanted to know about Judaism - would I consult the Muslims ?
If I wanted to know about Hinduism would I consult the Budhists ?
If I was an agnostic seeker, & wanted to know about Protestantism, would I consult the Orthodox Churches ?

    NO !

So please do US the same courtesy & come & check out what we do believe & teach !

    BRING IT ON !

    To Quote Bishop Fulton Sheen:
“There are not over a hundred people in the United States (World) who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church—which is, of course, quite a different thing….”
