National Day of Prayer

Maybe you noticed that Prophecy Central disappeared over the week-end. This was the second shocking problem we have experienced in the last two months. The first was a hacking incident, with our home page replaced by a death-focused game message. In that case we were able to just reload our home page and continue our mission of bringing you “A world of information about Bible prophecy.”

Something more serious happened last Saturday. Our domain registration for Bible-prophecy.com expired, but we did not know it because we were under the impression that our domain was given free registration with our new hosting company.

Technically, it was our fault, and someone snapped up the expired domain, surely knowing that it was a very valuable site. For many years Prophecy Central has been listed in the number one spot when one searches for “Bible Prophecy” on Google and other search engines. Depending on what is happening in the world, we may have more than 100,000 visitors per month. Most visitors are Bible students, teachers, and pastors.

Suddenly the whole Prophecy Central site, including 14 years of accumulated news stories in over 100 sub-categories of Bible prophecy. This blog was also unavailable. In our place visitors found a religious advertising site with an Islamic Crescent, Jewish Star of David, and a Cross.

This was a great disappointment to us, and even though we could put the same information on a new domain, it would take years to rebuild all the links and good will that has been established. People would not be able to find us on search engines for a long time, and thousands of Bible students and pastors would no longer have this trusted resource at their fingertips.

On Sunday morning I explained this to our wonderful church family at Solid Ground Church in Alta Loma. I asked them to pray that our all-powerful Lord would reverse this tragedy, or in some other way prove once again that, “In all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28). That was at about 10:45 a.m. At 11:05 a.m. an email message was sent to me by the domain registry company. I didn’t access it until mid-day, but was exuberant when I read that the person who bought the domain had experienced a change of heart and was willing to return it to us for a reasonable fee to cover his costs!

Thus, we are back, and have learned a valuable lesson. But we want to solicit all of your ongoing prayers for us because Prophecy Central may suffer other attacks as we remain faithful to God’s Word in several controversial matters.

Is God’s Judgment Real?

The Polyptych of the Last Judgment, a remarkab...

Most Americans, even “Christians,” are living as if there will be no final judgment. So many people say, “I just don’t think a God of love would send me to hell.”

The recent story of the conversion of a famous English atheist to Christianity is a timely reminder that the Bible really does warn unbelievers that they will be sent to an eternity without Christ if they ignore his love and the salvation he has provided.

Recently on our Apologetics Central site we posted an article about Peter Hitchens, a Marxist atheist, who was deeply disturbed by what he saw in Rogier van der Weyden’s painting, “The Last Judgment.” He was impressed with the terror on the faces of those who were being condemned to hell. “They’ve obviously just heard the last trump,” Peter said. “And one of them was actually vomiting with fright.”

Peter admits he was afraid, but quoted the Scripture, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7). He is now a strong believer in Christ, and has written an apologetics book entitled, The Rage Against God: How Atheism Led Me to Faith.

Christian apologists often refer to the biblical truth that The Lord does not want anyone to perish, “but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9). Those who reject God’s offer of salvation are instead choosing to pay for their own sins. In The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis said, “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’ ”

The “Great Awakening” in the 1700’s started with Jonathan Edwards’ sermon, “Sinners in the hands of an angry God.” Maybe Hitchen’s experience is just what this generation needs. Maybe we are ready to allow a great revival in these End Times.

A Blog About Blogs

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Recently blogging has made a huge impact on the news industry. When traditional media outlets fail to get to the heart of current important issues, the bloggers swarm the story and uncover the facts. Thanks to the Internet, everyone has a voice, and some of them, like Matt Drudge, have developed a magnificent megaphone.

Now blogging has come to the Internet world of Bible prophecy. On Prophecy Central, we continue to summarize news stories of special interest to prophecy students, with little or no editorial comment. And now, with a separate blog, we feel the freedom to give commentary to current events and add the Bible passages that relate to the issue.

There are other good prophecy blogs popping up also! So we have just added a section to our “About Prophecy” links that is just about prophecy blogs. By making these available to you in one place, we hope to enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of the subject.

You can get to it by clicking on “Prophecy Links” at the top of Prophecy Central’s home page, or by going directly to the Prophecy Blogs section at

Solomon said, “The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails-given by one Shepherd. Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this the whole duty of man.” - Ecclesiastes 12:11-13
